4am Monday is when it all began. Will woke me up because he heard Lydia's Continuous Glucose Monitor buzzing. I jumped up in a panic. (I always operate in 911 mode, or that is what he says) Will got his head lamp on and we went into her room to put on a new sensor. It takes two hours after it is on, to start working. My thinking, it HAD to be on for her first day at childcare and my first day at work. It was early, dark in her room and I was nervous. I got it on her, but still unsure if I did it right. (remember I had only done it one other time and did it while watching the DVD)
It was a pretty, stressful start, but by 7:30, everything was good for a Monday morning.

CGM
Lydia's new device is on. She was so brave, and I was sweating. Will and Dantz held her tight on the couch, while I went step-by-step, as the DVD instructed. We did it. It is working and I cannot stop looking at the numbers.
For those of you that are curious, this continuous glucose monitor will give us a blood sugar reading every five minutes. She will wear it, in addition to her insulin pump. It will alarm with a vibration and beep, if she is dropping or her blood sugar is rising. It is totally amazing and Lydia is super excited about it too!
A big, huge thank you to Team Lydia and some pretty amazing people that covered the costs of all the t-shirts. They paid for 500 tees to be printed and all profits went to Lydia Dowling's Medical Fund. Friends and family, near and far, bought shirts and have been wearing them this week. I love it and love you all more. Thanks to you all, we have this new snazzy device, an insulin pump, a cabinet full of medical supplies and an account to pay for future prescriptions and supplies. What an overwhelming feeling! Pure thankfulness and what a blessing it is!
Now, I am switching gears.
On Monday, March 4th, I am returning to full-time work. I will be leaving my two, sweet girls at Preschool every morning and then they will spend the rest of the day at First Pres childcare. The timing of this monitor arriving was perfect. Will, or myself, will still have to visit the school and daycare to check her and give her insulin, but what a peace of mind knowing that the CGM will alarm her teachers, if she is needing extra attention.
We are nervous and excited about this new chapter in our lives. (The girls only concern seems to be the nap mat that they will get to use.)
I will be back with pics from the walk from the weekend! Go Team Lydia!
xoxo,
Kristee

JDRF Fundraiser at First Pres
It was such a sweet sight to walk into preschool this morning and see so many Team Lydia t-shirts. Mrs. Sanders, Lydia's teacher, decorated the foyer with pictures of Lydia with her friends, tulips and a big Team Lydia sign. Lydia and Dantz were both super excited. (and I failed to get a picture of them together)
First Pres Preschool is doing a sneaker sale this week to raise money for Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Students are bringing in their money to buy a sneaker. They are taping these around the halls of the school. It is super cute.
We are so blessed and thankful for so many precious friends and such loving teachers!

Weekend Excitement
Saturday I went to the Jon Jam and was in the chili cookoff with some sweet friends. Fun times and we placed second. :)
While there, Will sends a pic of Dantz getting her hair cut. I replied, no bangs and no layers. It is short, but she looks pretty stinkin' cute with her new 'do. Lydia was at a birthday party during the haircut, so luckily they did not get a hold of her thick, curly locks.
The weekend has been fun and we are looking forward to being out of school tomorrow too.
I should have tees on Tuesday afternoon. I will get them sorted and ready for deliver and pick up sometime by the end of the week. Thank y'all so much!

Rain and Team Lydia
Sunday night and early Monday, it rained HARD.
This picture was taken Monday morning. Every room was prepped for a flood. Nothing was under the beds, on closet floors and all furniture was sitting on books. We were getting ready for the rain that was still yet to come on Monday pm. We sent the girls to Bea and Papa's after school on Monday, and thought the worse was yet to come.
Monday afternoon, the rain stopped and the water went away. The ditch across the street that was overflowing was empty again. It did not pour on Monday night like the forecast predicted. Whew, thank you, Lord.
It is Tuesday night and it is raining again. All the rugs are back down and the furniture is all back in it's place. I really hope that I haven't jinxed us.
Will and I are ready for the rain to go away, but I think these two cuties are enjoying their rain gear.
Lydia in pink and Dantz in Batman. Go figure.
I am in full Team Lydia mode. The walk will be here soon and we hope that you can join us. You can register online here, Diabetes Walk . The walk is Sunday, March 3 at 2pm. We will start at Westgate's gym. We are halfway to our goal of $5000. All donations are tax deductible. If you prefer writing a check, instead of donating online, feel free to mail to me. payable to: JDRF
We sold over 500 Team Lydia t-shirts. They should be ready by the end of this week and we will get them distributed. Cannot wait to see them all over town.
Hopefully L will have one of these, real soon. She will still have her insulin pump, but this would help monitor her blood sugar. Check out the video.
