Update on Lydia!
I've copied and pasted another letter Will sent to our church for you all to have an update too!
Spring Break 2k12!!!!! |
Yesterday afternoon, Kristee was able to talk to Nurse Cathy
at Children's Hospital regarding tests that were done in Birmingham last
Tuesday. The throat culture that would indicate the presence of bacteria
normally found in CF patients was negative, testing to qualify Vitamin
Absorption were normal for a 4 year old, and Lydia's liver proved to be
functioning as God intended.
This past week we have added low doses of digestive enzymes
to Lydia's regimen and are beginning to see positive results. There are other
potential causes for the symptoms Lydia has experienced and further testing will
be done. We are hopeful that blood samples taken last week will be sufficient to
expand the scope of testing that we may have all the information possible on our
next visit, 5/02.
We are most grateful for your prayers for Lydia. We ask that
you continue to pray for healing for Lydia, clarity and wisdom for the Doctors,
and for Kristee and I to take comfort and rest in God's Sovereignty in all
things.
Will be back soon with lots of pics!

Sweat Test #2
Thanks so much for all of your love and prayers!!
Dear FPC family,
Kristee and I cannot adequately express in words our gratitude to you for
your thoughts and prayers for Lydia leading up to today's appointment at
Children's Hospital. We are most grateful to our Heavenly Father, who hears and
answers prayer.
We are encouraged by the results of todays' visit and lab results. Lydia
was referred to a Pediatric Pulmonologist after a Sweat Test performed locally
returned abnormal findings typical of sufferers of Cystic Fibrosis. The Sweat
Test performed in Birmingham returned normal results and are accepted as Most
Reliable, ( We have two Accredited Centers for the diagnosis and treatment of
Cystic Fibrosis in Alabama, B'ham and Mobile) . Even though the Accredited test
would point to some other diagnosis, Dr. Troxler, after listening to Lydia's
health history, ordered genetic testing and 4 other studies, centered on Lydia's
ability to absorb vitamins and throat culture to determine the prescence of
bacteria normally found in CF patients. Some of these conclusions will come
sooner than others.Genetic test results being the last piece of the puzzle, 4-6
weeks. We are scheduled to follow up May 2nd.
We take comfort in the non diagnosis of CF and that people who do endure
the disease have a wonderful team of Doctors, Nurses, and Researchers
working not only to give care but find a cure. God has blessed Lydia with
Exceptional Caregivers and a Prayerful Church Family. We are grateful to God,
that while Lydia's needs our uncertain to us, they are known to Him who can do
immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine. And we ask for Grace and
Healing on her behalf. We ask that you continue to remember Lydia in your
prayers.
In Christ,
Will and Kristee

Tomorrow
Family and Friends,
We are off to Birmingham tomorrow morning to repeat the Sweat Test and then we will see the Doctor afterwards. We would love your prayers!
Specific prayer requests:
1. Praying the Dothan sweat test results are wrong.
2. Peace and comfort, if the results are not wrong.
3. Safe trip to and from Birmingham
Love,
Kristee

Sweet and Salty
I debated on putting the latest news on here, but I have had so many people ask me about Lydia's tests.
We did not get the news we were hoping for today. Dr. Ogunbi called and said the "sweat test" came back abnormal. The Sweat Test is to check for Cystic Fibrosis.
Dr. Ogunbi is making Lydia an appointment with a Pulmonary Doctor in Birmingham for additional tests. We will know more about her treatment after we see the Pulmonologist.
Will and I are both doing good and know that God is in complete control. He has his hands wrapped all around our sweet and salty girl and has big plans for her.
Thanks so much for all of your prayers.
"Don't worry about anything, but, in everything through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7)

Special Picture
I was going through old emails and found one from 2009 with this picture attached.
Dantzler is wearing a christening gown from 1908 and Lydia has on the slip for it. It belonged to Will's Grandfather, George Barkley. It was also worn by their Bea-Bea when she was a baby and their daddy too. (Bea's brothers, nieces and grandsons have all worn the gown too) It has been passed down through many generations.
I am so glad we have this picture of the girls wearing such a special, family treasure.
(and thrilled it was returned safely, after two baptisms and a photo shoot)

No Update
We do not have an update. Dr. Ogunbi was a very nice lady that asked us a lot of questions and immediately started ordering tests, to try find out the reason for all the trips to the restroom and the weight loss. Lydia had a lot of blood taken today and a urine sample. We have a couple more tests scheduled in Dothan, then we will report back to Montgomery in a month.
We are continuing to learn that the pancreas is pretty darn important. It works real close with your ol' digestive system too. So, there is a lot of stuff to rule out and check.
Meanwhile, we are waiting, hoping and praying for our sweet girl.
And we are pooped. :) Night.
Sweet L waiting and waiting.... This girl totally rocks the department of patience |
She falls apart after being there over two hours, but it is only because it is past her lunchtime and her BS is low! |

Tummy Time!
Tomorrow am, Lydia and I are heading to Montgomery to see a Pediatric Gastrologist. She had a routine 'betes check-up in Birmingham a couple of weeks ago. The visit was pretty good, except she had lost a couple of pounds since her last visit in October. Dr. Ashraf had some concern about the weight loss, plus Lydia's ongoing stomach issues.
I told Lydia today that we were going to the stomach doctor tomorrow and she asked me if they were going to cut her stomach open? I assured her that they would not!
Anyway, we would appreciate a prayer or two for our smart girl. We do hope to get some answers that might help with her tummy issues and pray that it is nothing.
Updates to Follow.
Love and Hugs!
