Latest on Lydia

Hey Friends and Fam!

Just wanted to let all of you know that we will not be going to Birmingham for Lydia's appointment tomorrow. They do not have all of the tests results back in, so we pushed her appointment back two more weeks.

We did learn yesterday from one of her tests that she has moderate pancreatic insufficiency. She has been taking the prescribed digestive enzymes since her original appointment and they really seem to be helping.

Our prayer is, it is all Type 1 related, but mostly that she will continue to gain weight and be healthy.

What is pancreatic insufficiency?

Pancreatic insufficiency is the inability of the exocrine pancreas to produce and/or transport enough digestive enzymes to break down food in the intestine and to allow its absorption. It typically occurs as a result of progressive pancreatic damage that may be caused by recurrent acute pancreatitis or by chronic pancreatitis due to a variety of conditions. In children, it is most frequently associated with cystic fibrosis (CF) or Shwachman-Diamond Syndrome (SDS). SDS is the second most common cause of inherited pancreatic insufficiency after CF. All those with SDS have some degree of pancreatic insufficiency beginning in infancy. Pancreatic insufficiency can also be associated with type 1 or autoimmune diabetes. It is less frequently but sometimes associated with pancreatic cancer.

Pancreatic insufficiency usually presents with symptoms of malabsorption, malnutrition, vitamin deficiencies, and weight loss (or an inability to gain weight in children) and is often associated with steatorrhea (loose, fatty, foul-smelling stools). Diabetes may also be present in adults with pancreatic insufficiency.

We are being patient with the results, yet ready for our appointment on May 23rd.

Thanks for loving and caring for our sweet girl!

XOXO,
Kristee

A Weekend of Fun in the Sun!

Friday afternoon we loaded up and headed South for the weekend. The girls have been asking for a beach trip and the weather predicted sunny skies, so we made it happen. And I am so very glad that we did.
Finally, we are out of the van and enjoying some fresh air!

Hitting the surf first thing! It was chilly!

Have I mentioned that they are best friends? So sweet!

Me and my girls.... D with her feather and L with a shell!

A little drip sand castle action......

We each had a sleeping beauty in our lap for what seemed like hours......

Will took a load of stuff to the van and returned with this tasty treat!

Leaving the beach... 9:30-4:30, we brought it hard core!!

Impromptu Dance Party

After the dance party, we showered and put the girls in their pjs. Will and I got dressed and went on a hot date. Happy "early" Anniversary to us!

Sweet, Aunt Weezer came over and sat with the girls while we went to Saltwater Grill for a delicious dinner.

Will snapped this. I asked some ladies if they would like a picture together, then I ended up being the photographer for several others.

Can you say, YUM! This was Will's fine dish- Red Snapper with a soft shell crab on top.

Sunday morning, we got up and headed straight to the Waffle House. It never disappoints, in my book.

Dantz: "I want toast and bacon"  Lydia: " I want a waffle"

Let's just say they were fighting over the last bite of waffle. Will and I were hoping for a bite, but it didn't happen.

After breakfast, they took me back to the condo to clean and pack our things. They went on an adventure with their daddy. Once again, he's the fun one.

We had a great weekend together! Thanks Grandmother and Rob for letting us use the condo and also to Aunt Weezer for watching the girls, way past her bedtime. :-)

We can't wait to do it again!

Three Years Old Today!

I cannot believe our little punky princess is already three years old. She is a ham and makes us laugh every day, but is also our little, cuddle bunny. Happy Birthday, Dantzler Barkley Dowling!

Grandmother!

Grandmother and her girls eating lunch on Sunday
After Omnifit and gymnastics on Monday, we took Grandmother down to the beach to meet back up with Rob and to spend some time with them there. We didn't even get on the beach this trip because the weather wasn't too great on Tuesday, so we worked in playground time, haircuts, Captain Anderson's and then back on the road again....

Making two wishes: 1st wish- That we will all be mermaids. 2nd wish- That we will be human again.

D slept from Guard Shack at Baypoint to Oak Drive. :)

Will left Friday night and has been in South Florida fishing with some of his friends. We just got word that he is coming home tonight; Hopefully, with some fresh fish too! We are ready to see him!

Our little "Dantz Machine" is turning THREE this Friday, will be back soon with pictures from her special day.
